The Private Haven Spaces
Sundeck access is restricted to guests 16 and over, which surprises families every season.
The Haven is a keycard-restricted suite experience with private spaces aboard select Norwegian ships. Some Haven suites sit inside the enclosed complex. Others, including many forward-facing and aft-facing suites, are located elsewhere on the ship and still carry full Haven access and benefits. If courtyard proximity matters to you, that is a question to ask before you pick a suite number, not after.
Access to the private spaces is generally restricted to registered Haven guests, although limited exceptions may be made for invited dining guests at the concierge’s discretion and for an additional charge.
The Haven Courtyard and Pool
Included.
Every ship with The Haven has a private courtyard with a pool and hot tubs. On Breakaway and Breakaway Plus ships the courtyard sits under a retractable glass roof, which matters more than you would think on an Alaska sailing in May. What it is not is uniform. The Haven Sundeck
Included, with an age restriction.
Loungers, cabanas and, on the newest ships, a panoramic infinity pool, an outdoor sauna and a cold room. Norwegian’s Haven page notes that Sundeck access is restricted to ages 16 and over, verified August 1, 2026. Families should read that line twice before assuming teenagers under 16 can join you up there. The courtyard pool below has no such restriction.
The Haven Restaurant and Lounge
Included on select ship classes.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner in a room reserved for Haven guests, plus a private lounge and bar. Norwegian confirms that “the Haven restaurant is complimentary for all guests staying in a Haven cabin,” and that it does not consume a Free at Sea specialty dining night. That is meaningful value most comparison spreadsheets miss.
Norwegian’s own footnote lists both the Restaurant and the Lounge as available on Norwegian Epic, Breakaway class, Breakaway Plus class and Prima class ships. Norwegian Pearl, Jade, Jewel and Gem have a Haven courtyard and Haven suites, but no dedicated Haven Restaurant. The Poolside Valet
Included.
Norwegian lists a poolside valet at the Haven Sundeck and Courtyard, which in practice means somebody brings you a light bite or a cocktail without you getting up. If you have ever done the wet-feet walk to a bar with your book tucked under your arm, this is the perk you will describe to friends first.

Norwegian’s Haven page describes a trained butler on call 24 hours a day. The butler’s time and assistance are included with every Haven suite at no separate charge.
The distinction that trips up almost every first-timer is that the time is included and the items are not always. In-suite dining delivered from a specialty restaurant carries that restaurant’s cover charge, which Norwegian states directly on the Haven page. The Haven Concierge
Included.
The concierge is a different person with a different job. Norwegian describes the concierge as arranging priority reservations for dining, entertainment, excursions and more, and the role also covers priority tender arrangements, disembarkation planning and untangling issues involving other departments.
As a general rule, begin with your butler for suite-related requests and your concierge for reservations and arrangements around the ship. The two coordinate with each other, so starting in the wrong place costs you a redirect rather than a disaster.
Priority Services
Escorted embarkation is the perk repeat Haven guests miss most when they sail in a regular balcony.

Norwegian’s published Haven benefit list includes priority check-in and embarkation, priority tendering, priority disembarkation, priority reservations for dining and entertainment, and priority beauty salon and massage appointments on select ships.
Set expectations correctly here. Priority is real and it is one of the most underrated Haven benefits, but the exact process varies by terminal, port, local officials and operational circumstances. Two things worth noting on that list. The priority salon and massage slot is the perk. The treatment itself is billed at menu price. And Norwegian’s laundry line reads expedited dry cleaning and laundry services, not free. Norwegian separately lists one complimentary pressing for Owner’s Suites and Garden Villas only. Other categories may be charged, so ask before you send anything out.
Inside Your Haven Suite
Bedding, Bath and Amenities
Included. Norwegian lists a Bliss Collection pillow-top mattress, fine bed linens, a pillow menu, plush bathrobes and slippers, and luxury bath products. Higher categories add whirlpool tubs and separate dressing areas. Evening turndown, nightly treats and sparkling wine with fruit on embarkation are also on the published list.
The Espresso Machine and the Minibar
The in-suite espresso machine is included. The minibar beside it is not.
Included, then a possible charge with exceptions.
Norwegian lists a deluxe coffee, tea and espresso machine in the suite, and Haven guests consistently rate it as one of the quiet daily pleasures.
The minibar needs more care. Norwegian generally lists the in-suite minibar as an additional cost, printed on the Haven benefit list as “Mini-bar (add’l cost)” and verified August 1, 2026. However, certain Owner’s Suites and other upper-level categories may include selected bottled water, soft drinks or alcoholic beverages. Confirm the exact benefits for your ship and suite rather than assuming either way. Many guests ask their butler to clear the minibar on day one so the fridge is free for their own things, which works regardless of which category you are in.
In-Suite Dining and Room Service
Included, with an important exception.
Norwegian lists 24-hour suite room service and white-tablecloth in-suite dining as Haven amenities. Per Norwegian’s room service FAQ, a convenience charge of up to $9.95 per order plus a $4.95 breakfast fee applies fleetwide, and guests sailing in Haven and Suites staterooms are not subject to that service fee.
The exception: a 20 percent gratuity and beverage service charge applies to non-complimentary beverages and special occasion items, and in-suite dining delivered from a specialty restaurant carries that restaurant’s cover charge.

Dining and Drinks: What Your Fare Covers
Many Haven reservations are booked with Norwegian’s Free at Sea promotion, but it is a promotional package attached to qualifying reservations rather than an inherent Haven benefit like butler service or courtyard access. Promotions and booking choices change, so check your confirmation.
When Free at Sea is included with the reservation, Norwegian’s current description of the package, verified August 1, 2026, provides an unlimited open bar for guests 21 and older, specialty dining meals scaled to sailing length, 150 minutes of high-speed Wi-Fi per guest in the stateroom, and a $50 shore excursion credit at every port for the first guest on the reservation.
Specialty dining meals scale as one meal on 2 to 4 nights, two meals on 5 to 6 nights, three meals on 7 to 8 nights, and four meals on 9 or more nights. Beyond those, Norwegian publishes cover charges of $60 for steak, teppanyaki, French and seafood venues, $50 for Brazilian, Asian, Food Republic and sushi, and $40 for Italian, barbecue, Pincho and Mexican.
Two details worth knowing. Beverages in Norwegian’s Connoisseur Collection sit outside the unlimited open bar, with a $15 credit off retail rather than free pours. And guests holding the Unlimited Open Bar package are not charged a corkage fee for wine brought aboard, which is genuinely underrated if you have a bottle you love.

What Is Not Included in a Haven Cruise
This is the section I would read first if I were booking.
The daily onboard service charge. $25.00 per person, per day for The Haven and suites in 2026, and $20.00 for Club Balcony Suite and below, for guests three and older. Prepayable up to 24 hours before sailing and fully refundable on cancellation. None of it goes directly to your butler as a personal tip.
Beverages outside your package. The Connoisseur Collection sits outside the unlimited open bar, and if Free at Sea is not on your booking, beverages are billed at prevailing rates plus 20 percent gratuity.
Everything ashore, spa and casino. Shore excursions, spa and salon services, casino play and photography are all separate. The concierge makes booking them easier. That is a different thing from making them free.
Tipping beyond the service charge. Norwegian publishes no butler tip rate, and that is not an oversight. In our Haven at Sea community poll, 85 percent of respondents tipped their butler $20 to $29 per day. That is a community figure and a useful benchmark, not an official rate or an obligation.
Exceptions by Ship and Suite Category
This is where most Haven disappointment actually originates, and it is rarely about a missing perk. It is about a guest whose ship or suite category works differently than they assumed.
Ships Without a Haven Restaurant
Norwegian Pearl, Jade, Jewel and Gem have Haven suites and a Haven courtyard, but no dedicated Haven Restaurant or Lounge. Those Haven areas are also the fleet’s original and smallest. The suites themselves are lovely. The enclave experience is simply a different, more compact product than the one on a Prima class ship, and it is priced accordingly.
Suite Categories With Extra Inclusions
Owner’s Suites and Garden Villas carry inclusions that other Haven categories do not, including Norwegian’s one complimentary pressing and, in some cases, selected minibar beverages. Suites Located Outside the Complex

The Honest Summary
What’s included in a Haven cruise is, at its core, three things: private space that nobody else on the ship can enter, two dedicated people whose job is to make your week easier, and the removal of almost every line you would otherwise stand in. Everything else on the list is a pleasant detail layered on top.
What is not included is mostly consumption. Drinks outside the package, cover charges past your Free at Sea meals, the minibar, the spa, the excursions and the service charge. Budget for those separately and The Haven behaves exactly as advertised. Assume they are folded in and you will have a conversation with guest services on the last morning that nobody enjoys.

Strip it back and a Haven fare buys three things reliably: private space, two people whose job is to make your week easier, and priority that removes most of the lines you would otherwise stand in. Those hold on every ship in the fleet.
Almost everything else on the list has a condition attached. The restaurant depends on your ship. The pressing and the minibar depend on your suite category. The beverage and dining value depends on whether Free at Sea is on your booking. None of that is a catch. It just means the honest answer to “what’s included in a Haven cruise” is partly a question about your specific reservation, which is exactly why the verification list above exists.
